Seven DIY ideas for your wedding in Chicago

I have had many DIY ideas for weddings since childhood!

My aunt got married when I was about 10 years old. I was part of her wedding planning journey. Apparently, she noticed that I have an eye for design, even though I was very young.

It was supposed to be a 3-day wedding and please don’t ask me how much she won in the lottery to pay for it!!! She spent to the last penny on three glamorous dresses, the best photography service in the city, and of course dinner for three nights! She didn’t consider that she must have saved some for decoration.

My aunt couldn’t undo the invitation nor return the dresses, therefore she asked for help! Bringing a 10-year-old into the game revealed how desperately she needed help regardless of my age and possible disqualification.

Why it is important to have wedding invitation cards!

I remember that I was in charge of the wedding favorsX3!!!

Honestly, I felt proud that I was chosen for this very important position. Now, I had to hire my team to help me make that happen.

I think I owe her my entrepreneurship soul as I got to experience creating a line of products (wedding favors) and hiring people (my younger cousins) for this important matter!

What were our DIY ideas for weddings?

  • For the first night: pink color Sugared Almonds in organza bags, decorated with pink ribbons.
  • For the second night: Sage color Sugared Almonds in organza bags, decorated with Sage ribbons.
  • For the third night: White color Sugared Almonds in organza bags, decorated with white color ribbons.

And you probably know why pink, sage, and white. Right?

As I was handing them over to the guests, I was making sure to mention that my team and I designed and created them all.

Regrettably, when couples consider budget allocations and expense reductions for weddings, the decoration budget is often a target for cuts or minimization.

However, the overall beauty of a wedding relies heavily on the entire wedding vendor team, including designers and florists. Simply hiring the best wedding photographer in Chicago isn’t sufficient; a stunning design is essential to elevate the imagery further.

Tips Before Hiring a Wedding Photographer in Chicago

I noticed that many weddings in Chicago carry the DIY characteristic, so I decided to write a blog post about Seven DIY ideas for weddings.

I highly recommend you hire a professional designer, but If you wanna do it by yourself, do it in style.

Here is the list of the things you can make (with your cousins) HAHA:

Ideas for your wedding

1- photobooth station

I’ve witnessed countless creative setups for photo booth stations. One simple option is to use two stands with a horizontal pole to hang a glittery and shiny backdrop.

Alternatively, you can craft a wooden board to serve as a backdrop, though be prepared for multiple trips to Home Depot! Afterward, you can adorn it with flowers. For added fun, consider purchasing or making silly props.

2- Just Married Sign: my favorite DIY idea for weddings

You can create a “Just Married” sign using decal alphabet stickers on separate thick pieces of paper, then attach them together with a string or ribbon. Spell out “J.U.S.T.M.A.R.R.I.E.D” for a charming touch. Another option is to use decal alphabet stickers on a piece of wood slab for a rustic feel.

3- Lay Out a Comfort Station

Consider setting up a comfort station if your ceremony and reception are outdoors. For hot days, provide parasols, and for chilly evenings, offer throw blankets.

Most importantly, if you want your guests to hit the dance floor, encourage them to ditch their uncomfortable yet beautiful shoes by providing flip-flops. It’s a thoughtful gesture!

 4- Wedding Seating Chart

Creating a wedding seating chart by assigning guests to table numbers can streamline the event. Get creative and design something that complements your wedding theme!

 5- Guestbook

Incorporating notes from your guests into your wedding memories is a lovely idea. Consider getting or making a beautiful notebook for this purpose.

Additionally, providing an instant camera allows guests to take a picture of themselves to accompany their notes. It’s not only enjoyable but also creates lasting memories.

 6- Wedding Program/fan

Design your wedding program using beautiful templates available online, then print them on paper that complements your style.

Add a paddle stick to turn them into fans for a practical and stylish touch. It’s a double-duty idea that adds charm to your ceremony!

7- Last but not least, FAVORS

I am not going to elaborate on this one, and you know why 😉
