In this article, we’ll discuss church wedding photography tips.
My background in Classic Art and fascination with Art History drove me to explore European arts and ancient churches. From Notre Dame in Paris to local churches in the US, I’ve delved into their symmetry and history.
Today, as a wedding photographer in Chicago, I’ve had the opportunity to capture ceremonies in various churches like Holy Name Cathedral, Fourth Presbyterian, and more. Each holds a unique charm, regardless of size or décor.
Honestly, I haven’t come across an ordinary one! All churches have special characters and vibes, regardless of its size, elaboration, or decoration.
I have some tips for newly engaged couples who will celebrate their wedding ceremony in Chicago Churches.
Whether you have hired the best wedding photographer in Chicago or not, here are some tips about church wedding photography.
As a professional photographer who often shoots with two cameras, I capture both wide-angle and zoomed shots. With my wide lens, I focus on the broader scene—guests, the church ambiance, the ceiling’s beauty, and the orchestra on the balcony—while the bride and her father approach.
Meanwhile, my other lens zooms in on the emotions playing across the couple’s faces as they see each other for the first time on their special day.
There’s a lot happening, so allowing ample time ensures your photographer can preserve these moments effectively.
Why do you need a second wedding photographer?
Churches, with their symmetrical architecture, are a testament to meticulous design. As an artist, I aim to showcase this beauty in my compositions.
To achieve this, stand precisely in the center of the aisle, facing each other or kneeling. You can gauge your position by using the floor tiles as a guide, maintaining an equal distance from each side.
After being pronounced husband and wife, indulge in a lingering kiss. This provides opportunities for both wide-angle and close-up shots, akin to when you walked down the aisle.
Compile a list of immediate family members and inform them in advance about staying for post-ceremony photos. You may find my blog in the blow link helpful in this regard.
Tips About Family Pictures on the Wedding Day
If you’re planning a unique exit, inform your photographer in advance so they can prepare accordingly. I typically send a questionnaire to couples before the wedding to gather detailed information about the day’s events.
If you’re considering having a church ceremony in Chicago, don’t hesitate to reach out. I have plenty more insights to share!
