Bridal jewelry is an essential part of the wedding day ensemble, imbued with culture, personality, and history.
My observation as a Chicago wedding photographer shows that bridal jewelry choices are deeply connected to tradition and individual expression.
Take, for instance, Indian brides who often showcase an array of stunning gold pieces—heavy necklaces, stacks of bracelets that jingle on both wrists, and ornate earrings. These pieces are not just for adornment; they are a nod to heritage, symbolizing prosperity, beauty, and blessings for the couple’s future.
On the other hand, some brides choose minimalism, opting to wear little to no jewelry to let their wedding band shine solo, making it the centerpiece of their bridal look. Whether minimalist or lavish, a common thread ties all brides together: their jewelry holds profound significance. It could be a necklace they’ve admired since childhood, a pair of earrings they discovered while shopping or an heirloom passed down through generations, tying them to family history.

As a storyteller and wedding photographer, I’m keenly aware of how vital these pieces are to each bride. That’s why, during my pre-wedding consultation calls, I make a point to guide couples in preparing items for their special day.
I advise them to gather their invitation cards, save-the-date cards, engagement rings, wedding bands, bridal jewelry, and other accessories such as perfumes or meaningful flowers. This preparation allows me to capture these details during the “getting ready” segment of the day, setting the tone for the full wedding story.

On the morning of the wedding, before the hustle and joy of people fill the space, I take time to create a beautiful flat-lay composition with these cherished items. Bridal jewelry is carefully placed to reflect its elegance and emotional significance, surrounded by complementary pieces like the engagement ring, invitation, or a special perfume bottle. The result is a frame that encapsulates the anticipation, the love, and the careful thought that goes into every detail.
Once these moments are immortalized in photographs, I shift my focus to the people—the laughter shared between bridesmaids, the teary-eyed parents, and the bride putting on her jewelry for the final touch before walking down the aisle.
Each shot builds the narrative of the day, creating a seamless blend of the tangible and intangible elements that make weddings unforgettable.
Bridal jewelry, whether grand or simple, is more than just an accessory; it’s a token of a day that will be remembered forever. Capturing it is my way of preserving not just an object, but a piece of the story that speaks to love, culture, and commitment.
